About us
Charity on Wheels' mission is simple. Rescue and restore people who are struggling with poverty and homelessness. Our goal is to see people restored, thriving, and back on the road to self-reliance. Each week we visit motels, parks, alleys, riverbeds, and shelters to engage with the most vulnerable and offer hope. With a focus on single mothers and veterans, our services begin with a "Hand up" not a "Hand out".

Our street outreach teams forge relationships through consistent weekly engagement, and our weekly gatherings providing a consistent community of support to the most vulnerable in our communities. Street outreach teams provide food, and other tangible resources along with a consistent invitation to help "change your life". Our weekly gatherings include dinner, music, a testimony or teaching, and access to resources to help transition people off the street. Our guests are showered with love. No one leaves without an encouraging word and many are changed (both visitor and volunteer) after attending. We also provide visitors access to our wardrobe food pantry, . There is not a "one size fits all" solution for homelessness. Some of our guests need rehabilitation from drugs and alcohol. Others need mental health assistance. Some just need a helping hand. Charity on Wheels relies heavily on a network of "help" organizations including transitional housing programs, addiction treatment centers, and mental health facilities. Though these organizations provide amazing services, Charity on Wheels' success has been built on providing an ongoing support to people after they've transitioned off the street. Reintroducing people back into society (and the workplace) who have been traumatized by a life on the streets is difficult and the number of homeless in Orange County is growing. The homeless population of Orange County, according to the 2024 homeless count, is just over 7,000 people. We clearly have a lot of work to do! Watch a talk on homelessness from our Director, Mickey Jordan.

Charity on Wheels currently averages 1 to 2 people (or families) off the street each month. Please help us do more!
History
Charity on Wheels began providing resources to the homeless in 2012. Inspired by his faith in Jesus Christ, Zach Southall began giving out food, toiletry items, and bicycles from the back of his truck on weekends. Hence the name "Charity on Wheels". The ministry quickly grew into a partnership with the Salvation Army and the launch of two weekly gatherings which have been successfully ministering to the homeless for over 7 years.
